Research and Writing
Matthew Apsokardu, a senior majoring in
Professional Writing with a Natural Science minor, will graduate December
2006. Matthew enjoyed working on this important topic and considered the
experience very enlightening.
Lauren Balogh is a senior at Penn State Berks who
will graduate with a degree in Professional Writing in May of 2006. She hopes
to pursue a career in technical, science, or medical writing. Lauren valued
her experience as an undergraduate researcher and looks forward to doing
research in her professional endeavors.
Jessica Didow will graduate from Penn State in May
2006 with a B.A. in Professional Writing. Jessica is working with an artist
she wrote about in this book to launch a magazine on fashion, music, and art.
Jessica learned through the NAACP project how much she likes human-to-human
research, such as interviewing and interacting with people.
Matthew Dietterick, a senior in Professional
Writing at Penn State Berks, will graduate in December 2006. Matt plans to
pursue a career in news writing. Matt appreciated the opportunity to do
primary research on such an important topic.
Mary Domsicz, a senior in Professional Writing at
Penn State Berks, will graduate in May 2006. Mary is seeking employment in
business writing, editing, or marketing. Mary felt that the extensive research
enabled her to become involved in another time and place, thus increasing her
understanding of this forgotten chapter of local history.
Rachel Ebling is a senior majoring in American
Studies at Penn State Berks. She plans to graduate in May 2007. Rachel enjoyed
doing this project and appreciates the opportunity.
Mary Gbaya-Kanga, a sophomore in Kinesiology at
Penn State Berks, will graduate in May 2008. Mary plans to pursue a career in
Physical Therapy. Finding African American women who helped contributed in
Berks County’s history was a great pleasure for her.
Laura W. Hirneisen is a senior in the Professional
Writing program at Penn State Berks and will graduate in May 2006. She plans
to pursue a career in freelance and creative writing.
Greg King, a senior at Penn State Berks, will
graduate in May 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing. Greg
plans to pursue a career in business writing. He is proud to be associated
with a project of this significance.
Karen Kraemer, a senior in Professional Writing at
Penn State Berks, will graduate in May 2006. Karen plans to pursue a career in
public relations or journalism. Karen enjoyed the opportunity to meet so many
new people and to be included in this project.
David Mory, a senior in American Studies at Penn
State Berks who also studies at Penn State Lehigh Valley, will graduate in
December 2006. Dave plans to pursue a career in Public Relations or
Governmental Affairs. The NAACP project offered an excellent opportunity to
meet and learn about and record the deeply influential African American
community.
Terry Stahl, a senior
in American Studies at Penn State Berks, will graduate in May 2006. Terry
plans to pursue a career after graduation in the United States Postal Service.
Terry appreciated the opportunity to do primary research in the local
community.
Mary Ann Watts is a senior citizen who has returned to school after many years. Mary Ann is a
junior in Professional Writing, hoping to graduate in 2007. She has no
definite career plans, but would like to write short stories or children’s
books. Mary Ann enjoyed doing research for this book; it was a rewarding
learning experience.
Christopher Zinkowicz is a junior in the American
Studies program at Penn State. Christopher will graduate in May 2008 with a
Bachelor’s in American Studies and Secondary Education and plans to pursue a
Master’s degree in Secondary Education. Christopher appreciates the
opportunity given to him by this project, which has helped him to realize that
History is his passion.

Website Development
Tim Davidson is a senior in Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State Berks who will graduate in May 2006. Tim is seeking a job in Information Technology. He is proud to have worked on this project with the NAACP, Reading branch.
Joe Hackett is a senior at Penn State Berks who will graduate in May 2006 with a degree in Information Sciences and Technology. Joe hopes to design video games for a major software company. He is proud to be associated with this Berks community project.
Andrew Robin is a junior at Penn State Berks who is majoring in Information Sciences and Technology. Andy plans to graduate with a minor in Business and the NSA certified Information Assurance certification. Andy plans to pursue a career in helping people to understand the legal and ethical aspects of information technology. Designing and implementing the website for the NAACP, Reading branch was a great experience because he enjoys utilizing his expertise to benefit the community.
Marketing and Promotions
Venessa Powell is a junior at Penn State Berks. She plans to graduate in the spring of 2007 with a degree in Business Marketing and Management. Venessa hopes to find a job in advertising.
