Reading Branch NAACP Press Release

July 24, 2015 - The Reading Branch of the NAACP has undergone many recent changes in both leadership and physical location.  Changes in our leadership staff are pending approval from the State Conference and National Organization with a formal announcement to be made in the coming weeks.

During this transition, we want the community to know the Branch remains active and continuing branch business with regular monthly meetings for both the executive committee and general members.  Active standing committee groups are involved in the areas of health, education, youth, criminal justice, political action, legal redress and religious affairs.  All are invited to attend the general membership meetings at 6:00 PM on the third Monday of each month at Zion Baptist Church, Thorn and Washington Streets in Reading, PA.

The decision to eliminate the office previously located in the Baer Building at 529 Court Street  as the Branch recognized the underutilization of the space over the past five years, a decline in visitor traffic, volunteer staffing concerns and from a general financial perspective.   The cost savings brought to light these funds could be better utilized in more critical initiatives of the organization.  Although we no longer have a physical office, continued and renewed efforts will be made to address the concerns and needs of our community.  Updated contact information is as follows:  Mailing Address:  Reading Branch NAACP, P.O. Box 5975, Wyomissing, PA 19610.  Phone Number:  1-877-262-5148  Website:  www.ReadingNAACP.org.

The Reading Branch of the NAACP continues to maintain a strong core group of leaders and a solid membership, but we need YOU, the community for whom we serve, to grow our ranks.  New members bring fresh ideas and solutions to help make a difference in the lives of the residents in the city of Reading and Berks County.  The community should expect to see new initiatives come from the Branch. Growth in membership, more visibility for existing and new members in the community, the start of a youth chapter in the fall of 2015.  To stay abreast of the Reading Area NAACP Branch activity, please visit us at our website or on Facebook!  Please reach out to us with your community or personal concern address -- call 1-877-262-5148.
